TARGA Byron Bay

“Targa”, origin Italian: literally ‘shield’ given as a name to a model of Porsche with a detachable hood (1965) probably suggested by the Targa Florio (‘Florio shield’). (Oxford dictionary) The Targa Florio was an open road endurance automobile race held in the mountains of Sicily near Palermo. Founded in 1906, it was the oldest sports car racing event. (Wikipedia)

Targa restaurant Byron Bay, was established in 2010 under Ben & Sarah Musu, locally well known restaurateurs. Ben’s passion for classic cars equaled his love of good food. Originally calling itself an Italian eatery, Targa’s space is a nod to Europe, classic and rustic,with dark European Bentwood furniture, damask wallpaper and rich wood features. Homage to Targa Florio can be found embedded amongst the walls.

Chef Dave Prowse had been manning the stoves for 4 years already when the opprtunity came to call Targa our own in December 2014. With a genuine love of the space and a steady local following of his food from past favourite haunts such as Olivo on Jonson St. and Seven Mile Cafe Lennox Head, the transition seemed natural.

Targa, now a “Modern European” restaurant, serves up Spanish, French and Portuguese influenced favourites with our Italian Sous Chef Andrea ensuring many Italian dishes are still featured also.Targa is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and antipasto & share plates through the afternoons.Our bar is licensed to serve drinks with or without food from 10am, choose from a refreshing selection of Australian & International wines, beer and cocktails. We serve delicious Genovese coffee all day, every day.

Our room is the perfect space for exclusive functions such as pre & post wedding get-togethers, corporate events, cocktails & canape evenings or special birthday celebrations. We can host up to 65 seated guests, more for stand up affairs and will happily arrange all aspects of your event and create menus to suit both your taste and budget.
