Welcome to the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport, the heart of the Northern Rivers region. The Airport is only 5 minutes from Ballina CBD and under 30 minutes to Byron Bay and Lismore helping you get to your destination whether it’s for a holiday or business, quicker.

We are proud to be the gateway to this stunning region of rich natural beauty and cultural diversity. The Northern Rivers is a destination for everyone and boasts some of Australia’s best beaches and surfing, rivers, rainforests and natural tourist attractions. There is always a festival or market going on and an abundance of activities to choose from such as hot ballooning, skydiving, whale watching, diving and snorkelling, sea kayaking or cycling. The region is renowned for the music, arts and cultural events that are held annually and for the eclectic array of cuisines and restaurants dotting the region’s landscape.

According to the NSW Department of Planning (2008) the Northern Rivers is the fastest growing area in NSW with projections indicating 47% growth by 2036 compared with 33% for NSW. Ballina Byron Gateway Airport is ensuring that our infrastructure can and will meet the needs of this population growth and the region’s tourism.  As such, we are constantly upgrading our facilities and a terminal expansion will be undertaken in line with these projections. A number of projects have been or are nearing completion enabling Ballina Byron Gateway Airport to increase jet services to make your trip quicker. We are also introducing new routes that our travelling public are requesting and increasing services to existing routes for improved frequency. We as an airport are excited for the future.

Airport Location

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport is located within 5kms of the Ballina CBD and a quick scenic road trip from Byron Bay (25 mins) and Lismore (30 mins).

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport offers easy and convenient travel options to and from the airport including long and short term car parking, car rentals, shuttle bus services, taxis and limousine services.

Car Parking

Car parking at Ballina Byron Gateway Airport is conveniently located at the front of the terminal building.

As part of our ongoing commitment to improve facilities for our guests, the Long Stay Car Park is fenced and now includes undercover spaces.

Both Short Stay and Long Stay parking areas are only a short stroll from the terminal.

Car Parking Rates

2 hours – $2.00
Day – $8.00 (day of issue only)
Overnight – $14.00
(per night, expiring midnight the next eve.  Example: park at 7am on Friday and return at 5pm on Sunday, 2 nights x $14 = $28)

The Parking Machines will calculate the amount due.  Please follow the instructions on the machine.

Important information & conditions:

  • Parking Machines accept credit cards and coins but do not accept notes.  For your convenience, a change machine is located at the front entry of the terminal building.
  • Please purchase a ticket and display it on your dashboard.  The ticket must be visible whilst vehicle is parked.
  • The main gate for the Long Term Car Park automatically closes and locks at 9pm and re-opens at 5am. In the event of delayed flights, Airline staff are able to access the car park. Otherwise a call-out fee of $80 will apply for after-hours access.
  • You use the car park and the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport site at your own risk and you are responsible for any damage to yourself, any damage you cause to anybody else, and any damage you cause to your property or someone else’s property. To the extent permitted by law, you also release the Airport Operator (Ballina Shire Council and its employees, officers, agents and contractors) from any liability, action or demand for any damage, loss, injury or death occurring in connection with your use of the car park or the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport site, however caused.

Passenger Drop Off
Passengers and accompanying baggage may be dropped off at the terminal kerbside, however due to Aviation Security requirements vehicles must not be left unattended at any time. Attended vehicles are able to remain in the drop off area for up to two minutes whilst unloading passengers. Any vehicle left unattended will be subject to an immediate fine.

You may collect passengers waiting for you at the front of the terminal building but only if all passengers are kerbside and ready to depart with all their baggage. Parking is not permitted outside the terminal at any time.

Meet & Greet
Convenient parking facilities are located directly opposite the terminal with stays of up to 2 hours for only $2.00. This is a great option to welcome or farewell your family, friends or colleagues at the gate, and to enjoy the in-terminal facilities.

Flight arrival and departure times can be checked online before leaving home should you wish to avoid unnecessary waiting.

Disabled Access and Parking
Accessible parking for mobility impaired persons is available in the Short Stay Car Park. The spaces have been located to ensure easy access to pathways leading to the terminal building.

Car Park Bookings
Bookings cannot be taken for either the Short or Long Stay Car Parks.

 

Services & Amenities

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport aims to provide an enjoyable airport experience by providing quality services and facilities within the terminal.


Café
The café has a great range of food and beverages to suit any traveller including freshly made sandwiches, burgers and coffee with daily newspapers and popular magazines available.


Automatic Teller Machines
There are two ATM’s located adjacent to the café within the terminal.


Baggage Trolleys
Baggage trolleys are available free of charge in the car park adjacent to the terminal.


Internet Facilities
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal for your convenience.


Passenger Assistance
A visitor information desk is located in the arrivals area of the terminal for passenger assistance or queries relating to your stay in the Northern Rivers.


Public Amenities and Parents Room
Public Toilets are located in the hallway adjacent to the Departure Lounge and within the Departure Lounge. Parent’s room is located adjacent to the Departure Lounge and is equipped with a baby change station, a nappy disposal unit and seating for use whilst feeding.


Public Telephone
A payphone is located adjacent to the Departure Lounge and accepts phone cards and coins.


Special Needs Facilities
Accessible parking for mobility impaired persons is available in the short and long term car parks (but not in the secured car park). The spaces have been located to ensure easy access to the terminal building.

If the passenger assistance, forward planning will help. For example some airlines are happy to provide assistance such as wheelchairs and baggage collection if this is pre-arranged. Alternatively it may be advisable that an additional person accompany you to assist the passenger while you remain with the vehicle.

Disabled toilet facilities are located adjacent to the Departure Lounge within the terminal.

No Smoking Area
Smoking is not permitted inside the terminal or under the front awning structure.
