Beachsafe App Surf Life Saving Australia
The Beachsafe app brings together numerous data sources and databases. Our aim is to present high quality up-to-the-minute beach safety information to the public at all times.
The app has been designed to promote safety and awareness to the public at and around Australian beaches. The app uses GPS to display nearby beaches including whether or not a beach is patrolled).
Every beach in Australia, whether it is patrolled or not, is listed in Beachsafe. The database which contains trustworthy and current summaries of all of a beach’s unique qualities – its hazards, its geographic location and its facilities and the large photos which head up every beach’s page. This is complimented by current weather conditions and warning advisories for each beach (supplied by the Bureau of Meteorology), live patrol data (taken from Surfguard and Surfcom), live news (taken from organisation Twitter feeds) and even on-going events which can be managed by surf club administrators and members of the public alike. All of this information can be viewed in over 50 languages using the live translation facility at the top of the page.
In this latest version, users can now translate all in-app text into 72 languages, making it ideal for foreign visitors to the coast. In addition future patrol dates can be checked enabling beach-goers to plan ahead and swim at the beach when it’s patrolled by surf lifesavers or lifeguards. All beaches also have their own ‘What’s On’ section which enables anyone to enter event information for the public and surf lifesavers alike.
